Only St. Philip Neri could have spent more time in Rome without fleeing occasionally. And so many things happened to impede our escape that it really is like a miracle that we got there at all. This is how to see Venice: late February or early March (as long as Carnival is over), when it's sunny and about 45 F during the day, staying at a cute convent a 10 minute walk from the train station and San Simeone Piccolo, and very, very few tourists. Fr. Sabonis (my classmate from Lithuania) and I even ran into some likeminded Santa Croce students in front of San Marco. DG!
