At Santa Croce, life continued on as normal while Angels and Demons was being filmed in the piazza behind the university. Little did the film crew know that they were being observed from the classroom windows by albino-monk-assassin-trainees, and that the place was crawling with real live Cardinals!

"Difesa" Season

Doctoral dissertation defenses (difese) are often spectacular events in Rome's Pontifical schools -- here are scenes from the Gregorian, the Lateran, Sant' Anselmo and Santa Croce. It's a bit unusual to have a number of Cardinals attend one's big day, but the level of scholarship can be very high, and sometimes merits such attention. There are always celebrations afterwards. It's not every day that one becomes a Sacrae Theologiae Doctor.

The Pontifical French Seminary

There's not much that can beat the warmth and beauty of the French Seminary on a gray December day in Rome. Yes, that's the dome of the Pantheon, one block away. Drinks on the roof of the Grand Hotel de la Minerve just next door cost.......you don't want to know!

Back in Rome

Father Elder and Silvana were in Rome for a week of Continuing Education in Canon Law at Santa Croce. It was great to see them. Plus the restoration at the Universita' is finally done -- even the courtyard looks spiffy.
